I am pleased to announce that Rik Pierce, world renowned master of working in Creative Paper Clay, has agreed to hold a small class in the South of England. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn to use this very versatile and unique medium. At the end of the course you will not only take home with you a beautiful house which you have created, but also the knowledge to enable you to continue using Creative Paper Clay in all your future projects.
On this course students will be building the witch’s house, although of course it can be used for a different purpose if preferred. Effects that students will learn to make include stonework, brickwork, tiles, and outside landscaping, including a pond, as well as making the glowing embers under the cauldron and in the fireplace.

The class will be held from Tuesday, 6th May, to Friday, 9th May, 2008, at the Pyke House Residential Training Centre, Battle, East Sussex. There is private off road parking available within a short walk of Pyke House. The house itself forms part of a 15th century terrace of Wealden cottages, built on Senlac Hill, the site of the Battle of Hastings, 1066. There are extensive and attractive gardens at the rear of the house, and panoramic views across fields and open countryside from the front.
The accommodation will be in twin bedded en suite rooms, and will include breakfast, morning coffee, buffet lunch, afternoon tea, and three course dinner. Vegetarians can be catered for. Wine is available to purchase with dinner if required. Whilst the bedrooms are rather small and quite basic, they are clean and comfortable, and the food is excellent. If two friends are coming together, they can of course be put into the same room if requested on the booking form.
This intensive course will start with students arriving from 12.30 pm for lunch at 1.00 pm, the course commencing at 2.00 pm sharp. Because of housekeeping restraints, bedrooms will not be available until 4.30 pm, but space will be available to store suitcases until then. As there is a great deal of work to be covered in just three and a half days, it is anticipated that work will continue during the evenings.
The course fee will be £375.00, and the full board accommodation at today’s prices will be £210.00 (prices for 2008 will not be known until September 2007, so please be aware that this will probably be increased slightly), making a total at today’s rates of £585.00. A deposit of £50 must be paid when booking, and arrangements can be made for the balance to be paid in installments if required. Full payment must be received not less than six weeks before the start of the course. All payments must be made in £sterling.
The cost of the course covers all materials required to build the house (except the interior lights), and includes the plinth on which it stands, the Creative Paper Clay, and clay working tools. Students will have to bring their own tool kit, paint and brushes, a list of which will be supplied later.
As only a small number of students can be taught on this course, it is essential to book early to avoid disappointment. A printable booking form is available here, but if you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
PS This course is now fully booked. If I can get just ONE more person interested, there will be an extra course starting 29th April - all details as above. This may be the last time that Rik will be teaching in the UK, so don't miss out. Please contact me before posting off your booking form and deposit. The 29th April course is now fully booked too, but I'm willing to keep a couple of names as reserves in case anyone drops out. If you'd like to be on the reserve list please send me the booking form without the deposit.
